Oregon and Oregon State are both quality institutions that in-state residents will find to be affordable options. Astoria has long been occupied by many different groups of people. For most of its history until the early 19th century, it was occupied by the Clatsop tribe before it was discovered and colonized by American settlers. In the 1920s, the Astoria Column was built as part of the state park system, and it was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The column is 125 feet tall and is also used as an observation deck.
If you like to look at ships and other types of old boats, you will want to visit the Columbia River Maritime Museum. It has long been noted for having the best maritime exhibits in the state and is the official maritime museum for the state of Oregon. Among the 30,000 objects currently housed in the museum, the most famous artifact may be the lightship Columbia.
